And then Scott is going home (up north MI home) for Justin's bachelor party. He gets back on Sunday and then the wedding is the next weekend! So it will be a full weekend of fun and a bit of time in the car. We do love the roadtrips though. Have a fabulous weekend!

New Pics!!!

So here are some pictures of our cutie that his fostermom sent us! Just some background when we went to visit we brought Mateo the little bike, he LOVED it and it seems that he is still having fun with it. The monkey we sent down with our friends Mark and Jill when they went to visit about a month ago. It had a little recorded message from Scott and I in Spanish and Mateo's fostermom said that he plays it all the time and says "Mama y Papa"! She also said that the other day they were looking at a magazine and Mateo pointed at a man that looked like Scott and said Papa! Ahh my heart, I am so thankful that this amazing family is doing all they can to prepare Mateo for his new family. What a blessing they are!
Hope you enjoy!

Still no news

Sorry it has been so long since I put up an update on the blog. We have had no new news and it had been busy due to the end of the semester so I am trying to catch up today. We have only five weeks left of the semester and only two weeks until my sister Krista gets married! So we are looking at a busy next couple of weeks and hopefully some good adoption news. We are still waiting to see if Ellie’s case is in PGN we should find out this week. Mateo’s lawyer got two cases from PGN this week, one was kicked out and one was out for good, we were neither. We are not really expecting any update right now, when cases are in PGN which can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months you really only hear if you are kicked out or out for good. So we are just praying and waiting. God has been good though, just today after church Scott and I were talking and we said that this has been the most challenging but also most growing season of our life. We are holding fast to God’s promises and claiming them over our life. Thanks for your support and prayers. We will update with any news we might have.
Blessings,
Laura

Not in PGN...Yet

The update this week from our agency is that our caseworker in Guatemala was hoping today or tomorrow to got our PA from the embassy. Here is the deal with the embassy. They only offer a certain amount of numbers a day to casworkers and lawyers so if you don't get that number than you can't pick up your paperwork. Crazy huh, what is crazier is that the casewokers have to get in line at about 4am to get a number. So we are praying that our caseworker gets a number and gets that piece of paper. On the positive side we had heard that Ellie may have been submitted to PGN I was concerned about that because then we would have had to wait to be kicked out of PGN (usually about 6 weeks) in order to submitt the approval we just got. So our caseworker is waiting on the approval and then submitting all of our paperwork to PGN. I am praying that it could still be this week. So that is the adoption update right now. We will let you know when Ellie makes it in the PGN.

Songs of hope

Scott got a new Rita Springer CD this past week and some of the songs have given me such hope and encouragment. One of them is called I Believe, part of the song goes like this
"He says he's forever faithful
He says he's forever true
He says he can move mountains
If he can move mountains
He can move my mountian, he can move your mountian too."
Those words have been running though my mind all week, we are in need of a mountian to be moved and I fully believe that he is able. I have such peace that God is going to move on our behalf and on the behalf of our children. Today is the start of a new week, I can't wait to see what He is going to do!
Blessings this week,
Laura

We got PA!

So in the midst of uncertainty we got some good news. We got an e-mail today from the US embassy that we have been issued PA or pre-approval from the embassy. This is the last thing we need for Ellie's case to get her into PGN! The bad thing is that the embassy is closeing down for the next few days and we do not know when our lawyer will be able to pick up the approval. We are hopeing and praying that it will be next week the couple days that they are open. After it is picked up they will need to translate the document and then it will be submitted into PGN, look out Mateo your sister is on her way! So that is at least a step in the right direction. As far as the situation in Guatemala, I talked to our agency caseworker today and she said it is still unknown what is going on. President Bush is visiting on Monday so we are praying that that is a good encounter. We will keep you updated on the situation but right now it is a lot of prayer and some more prayer. Thank you for your support, we need every prayer and word of encouragment we can get.

Asking for prayers and action...

We were informed by our agency of a new development with adoptions in Guatemala. The current president of Guatemala issued a new protocol trying to enact a new set of rules and regulations with adoptions in Guatemala. Though we do not know all that this will entail right now we know that it looks like it could be a threat to completing these adoptions any time soon. We would love if you would join us in going to the bellow e-mail addresses and e-mailing your congressmen. Pres. Bush is going to Guatemala in a week and we are hoping that if we put enough pressure on our government that in turn this will come up at the meeting between the two presidents. This is the letter that they sent us...

Dear Prospective Adoptive Families:

We want to inform you that the Protocol of Good Practices (or the Manual of Good Practices - we will use these interchangeably) was announced yesterday by the President of Guatemala’s office. It was announced, in part, so that Guatemala would have other “rules” in place until Hague compliant legislation can be passed by Congress. The Asociacion Defensores de la Adopcion (Association in Defense of Adoption, or ADA), a group of adoption attorneys fighting to keep adoption open, was present at the announcement. Below is their take on the situation.

Presentation of Protocol of Good Practices per the ADA (03/02/07)

http://www.adaguatemala.org/English/news/2007/03/the_presentation_of_the_protoc.html

The Protocol of Good Practices is a set of “rules” made by the president’s office which could significantly change the adoption process. It is really not a workable set of rules and Guatemala has no funds to put the Protocol into place. It should be noted that as in the U.S., the Guatemalan president is not permitted to make laws, only the Congress can do so. Therefore what the Guatemalan president’s office has done goes against the Guatemalan Constitution. Tenets within the Protocol are also against their Constitution. The adoption attorneys in Guatemala are fighting this Protocol and will be filing many challenges, but it will take time in which to do so.

Yesterday, after this announcement was made, we spoke to the Guatemalan contacts. There is speculation that the Protocol will not go into effect for at least another three weeks. It has also been speculated that it is not the Protocol’s intention to end adoptions in process, and if a family’s Power of Attorney is registered before the Protocol goes into effect, that they will be able to continue in the adoption process. This is something we cannot confirm at this time, but if true, we do expect significant delays in the process at least. We are in the process of coming up with a plan to get families’ Powers of Attorney to Guatemala as quickly as possible, if they are not yet there and those families wish to continue.

It was made very clear to us by the Guatemalan contacts that we (the adoption attorneys, the agencies, and the adoptive families) need to work together to put down this unconstitutional Protocol. They are asking that everyone send letters to their Congresspersons and to the President of the U.S. urging them to pressure the Guatemalan government to “repeal” the Protocol of Good Practices as it is unconstitutional, and to allow cases in progress to move through the system without delay. Note that anyone can write to their Congresspersons or to the President of the U.S. (i.e., previous adoptive parents, family, friends, etc.). We as the adoption community need to make it clear to our government and to the Guatemalan government that we will not sit by and let the president’s office make unconstitutional decrees that affect potentially thousands of Guatemalan children.

See the link below on how to send letters to your Congresspersons and the President of the U.S. There was a call to action posted on GuatAdopt’s website:

http://www.guatadopt.com/archives/000577.html#000577

There are many, many rumors flying around, and it is difficult to determine at this time what is correct, and what is just rumor. What is contained in this letter is essentially what we know right now. We will let you know as soon as we have additional information.

We have had a few days to process this news and though we are uncertain with what this means with Mateo and Ellie and our bringing them home we are certain of one thing. The adoption process can change minute by minute but our God does not change. His character does not bend when challenges come our way and he is faithful to bring about his purposes. We are trusting not in the things we can see right now but in our unseen God who holds all things in his hand. This is an opportunity to trust him and to praise him even when our hearts are heavy. Please join us in petitioning to our father on behalf or these orphans and contact those who may be able to have a voice on their behalf. Thank you for your support and prayers.
